College students face credit dragon

It's no secret that college students are inundated with pre-approved credit offers practically from the moment they arrive. What isn't talked about is the financial tsunami that can result when students go a little crazy with their new credit limits. It's a sad story - college students today may enter adult life loaded down with financial burdens that can take years to shake, including student loans and overwhelming credit card debt.

With cards easier to get than at any time in history, and predatory lending practices more the rule than the exception, it's a situation that's poised to get worse with newly tightened bankruptcy laws that make it harder to shed credit card debt. It's easy to say college students who overspend deserve the consequences (just check out some debt forums) but a layer of financial instability in the young-working population could have long lasting negative effects on society as a whole.
